Who Are We?
Training4Feet is part of The Smae Institute, the longest established (since 1919) and foremost UK training provider in this field. Based in Berkshire; we are the original Foot Health Institute.
The SMAE Institute was founded by W. Dixon Child after the end of World War 1. With its sheer expansion over the years, its head office moved to Leatherhead, Surrey, and then finally on to Maidenhead, Berkshire in 1949 where it still resides today.
Progressive and forward-looking, The SMAE Institute pioneered the Open Study method of training (home study with supporting lecturers). This method allows students flexibility and helps them to study and cope with the demands of a modern lifestyle. Our students come from all over the world and the majority come on personal recommendation. Our courses are written to allow access to a broad range of people with different life experiences and academic back-grounds, and we have no age barriers.
We are the only University approved Foot Health Course in the UK. Our course is Credit Rated by Queen Margaret University and carries 60 Higher Education Credits at Level 4. We are the only Institute to offer an FHP Diploma at this level. Our Diploma is equivalent to half of the first year of an undergraduate degree programme.
Though you study via distance learning, you are never alone as The Smae Institute offers full support both online and in person.
Come and visit us! The Smae Institute holds Open Days several times each month (both weekdays and weekends) to allow anyone interested in studying our Diploma to come along and view our unbeatable facilities, meet the staff and tutors, view our modern Clinic where students undertake their Clinical Training, and meet current students on their Clinical Training. The Open Day also includes an in-depth discussion of the FHP course, allows one to view sample modules and ask any questions one may have.
Theory Course
The Theory element of the Foot Health course consists of 12 Modules each with a module assessment (consisting of 25 multiple choice questions) and a Portfolio Task (a short essay based on each module).
You can work at your own pace, but we do not recommend completion of more than 1 Module per fortnight. The Module assessments completed online give you immediate feedback.
Clinical Course
Upon successful completion of the Theory element you are then welcomed to The SMAE Institute for 2 weeks Clinical Training. We run our clinical training every 2 weeks throughout the year meaning you can choose the dates you would like to attend so you can fit it in and around personal commitments.
You will gain hands-on experience, reinforcing your theory and giving you the core skills with which to work in the world of Foot Health and meet people from all walks of life.
